[EventCalendar] Managing the category archive

Hi,

Some time ago I have posted the question on how to manage the past events
through a category that has been assigned to the EC3, I've got the answer
that it would be best to make an extra cat for this and once the event has
passed to place it to this category, now this is certainly working solution
but I was wondering isn't there a more neat way to do this, I made site to
use the cats as pages so people can access the archives much more easily,
what in my case is necessary, especially when it  comes down to the events.
Does anybody have supplementary solution?
