[EventCalendar] Fatal Error with ec3_date in template-functions.php line 287

I'm getting the following error after an installation of EC3.1.1 RC1.  
This is with WP 2.2 and both are brand new installations to a server  
that has never seen any previous versions of either software.

Fatal error: Cannot instantiate non-existent class: ec3_date in .../ 
wp-content/plugins/eventcalendar3/template-functions.php on line 287

The code on line 287 of template-functions.php is:

$this_month = new ec3_Date();

The call that's not working is <?php ec3_get_calendar(); ?>  
obviously, but I cannot figure out why. I haven't been able to find  
anything via a search either.

Any help would be appreciated.
